Description
*This session will be live interpreted from English to French*
Indigenous Researchers at York University have established Canada’s first official Indigenous Research Ethics Board (REB), marking a significant step in how research ethics are evaluated in academic institutions. Unlike traditional REB models, which draw on Western ethical frameworks, York’s Indigenous REB centers Indigenous Knowledge Systems as a legitimate and distinct epistemology for judging the ethics of research. This presentation outlines the process of developing and implementing the board, the principles guiding its framework, and the practical challenges and successes encountered along the way.
